The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Yesterday was my weekly doctor's appointment. Baby Elsa still hasn't arrived so I was overjoyed when the doctor muttered the single most heavenly word in the English language - induction.

A date is now set and I feel I can breathe a sigh of relief. There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel (metaphorical for me, and soon to be very literal for Elsa!).

While having a deadline is putting my obsessive mind at ease, the rest of me is becoming very anxious and totally frightened at the thought of becoming a real Mama. It's such an awesome responsibility to be given!

It's Mocking Me

Today is THE day - Elsa's due date. Unfortunately, it looks like the little lady might not have the same punctuality bug as her mama. In fact, it's looking like she's just as close as making her appearance as she was a month ago.

Meanwhile, the hospital bag I carefully packed two weeks ago remains in our entryway and I get the feeling that it's starting to mock me. I would post a picture of it's mocking expression but my camera is in said bag. And I refuse to open the bag until I'm safe and sound in the hospital. Unfortunately, there are items in that bag that I'd like to use (I spent 30 minutes riffling through my dresser earlier this week for a specific top just to realize that I had packed it in my bag).

So, precious Elsa.... please, please, please make an appearance today! Mama doesn't like to be mocked by inanimate objects.

Eviction Notice

As a "recovering" control freak, it is driving me nuts not knowing when little miss Elsa Marie is destined to arrive. I made the mistake of convincing myself that she was going to come 2 to 3 weeks early. So even though my due date isn't for another couple of days, I feel like I'm weeks late.

The only comfort I have is that she is my daughter and perhaps she will take after me - a stickler for deadlines. It only makes sense that she's holding out for her actual due date. Right? RIGHT?!

Well, just in case she hasn't gotten the memo that she's due on Saturday, I've written an eviction notice. I can't exactly mail it to her but I thought if it was posted for the world to see, she might be shamed to coming on time. If not, I have the comfort of knowing that my doctor's office won't let me go more than a week past her due date!

From The Office of Mama Claussen

Miss Elsa Marie Reerslev Claussen:

While it has been a pleasure hosting you as the sole resident of the all-inclusive Mama Claussen Resort, please be aware that the resort is scheduled to undergo major renovations at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, January 15. Management has requested that you evacuate the premises by the specified time to allow the contractors to start on their work.

To help with your transition, the management has arranged for you to continue to have 24 hour access to the resort's gourmet restaurant for up to the next 12 months. We have also arranged complimentary accommodations at Claussen Haus, an up-and-coming bed and breakfast. The owners have agreed to honor these arrangements for 18 years, giving you adequate time to explore and prepare for your future destinations.

Again, it has been a pleasure having you as a guest of our resort but the management and construction crew are anxious to get the renovations underway.

Sincerely,

Mama Claussen
